Tips for Bonding with Your ESSA Plushie

Tips for Bonding with Your ESSA Plushie

Because every emotional support stuffed animal deserves a name—and a story.

At Lacey Lane Plushies, we know your Emotional Support Stuffed Animal (ESSA) is a comforter, a companion, and sometimes, your lifeline in a loud, busy world. Giving your plushie a name is part of what makes the connection so real.

Here are our favourite tips for naming and bonding with your ESSA:

1. Choose a name that makes you smile

Sometimes you’ll look at your plushie and just know what their name is. Trust your instincts! Whether it’s Max, Moonbeam, Sprinkles, or Sir Cuddlesworth III—if it feels right, it is right.

Every time you say their name, it should bring a little joy. Try saying it out loud a few times—if it makes you giggle or feel warm inside, you’ve probably found the one.

Our personal favourites were "Kiwi" the German Shepherd and "Lychee" the White Retriever!

2. Think About Their “Personality”

Is your plushie shy or bold? Calm or cheeky? Do they like adventures, naps, or guarding your backpack at school? Let their imaginary personality help shape their name. A sleepy bunny might be called Muffin. A brave octopus might be named Jet.

5. Spend Time Together

Bonding happens when your plushie joins you in everyday life:

  • Bring them in the car
  • Let them sit on your desk while you work or study
  • Involve them in routines, like getting ready for school
  • Hold them when you need to calm down
  • Feed them, walk them, brush them (yes, lots of people with ESSAs role play)
  • Make a TikTok video with them
  • Tell them how you're feeling before bed

The more they’re with you, the more they become part of your world.

6. Make It Official

Once you’ve named your plushie, you might want to:

  • Write their name on a tag or birth certificate
  • Create a little profile for them (on paper or your phone)
  • Introduce them to your friends or family
  • Take a photo together and share it (we’d love to meet them—tag us @the.essa.mum on TikTok!)

Remember: There Are No Rules

There’s no right or wrong way to name or bond with your ESSA. You might rename them ten times. You might have ten plushies with one shared name. The point isn’t perfection—it’s connection.

Because at the end of the day, your plushie is there to help you feel safe, understood, and loved. And sometimes, that all starts with a name.
