NDIS funding

What is the NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an Australian Government program that provides funding and support to people with a permanent and significant disability. It helps participants achieve their goals, increase independence, and improve quality of life.

Can plush toys be funded by the NDIS?

Funding plush toys under the NDIS depends on whether they’re considered “reasonable and necessary.” To be eligible, the item must:

  • Be directly related to your disability and NDIS goals
  • Represent value for money
  • Not be a purely recreational or everyday item

Weighted or sensory plush toys can often be funded when used for emotional regulation, therapy, or improving focus.

In some cases, a therapist’s letter of recommendation (e.g. from an Occupational Therapist) may be required to support your purchase.

Weighted Plush Toys

We can add 1–4 kg of weight to most of our Bocchetta Plush Toys to create a calming, supportive sensory aid. Weighted toys help regulate the nervous system and can provide comfort during stressful moments.

Our team can usually prepare and ship a weighted plush within 1–3 business days of ordering.

To request a specific weight, please email us at hello@laceylaneplushies.com.

Please note:

  • Plush toys smaller than 20 cm cannot be weighted.
  • Use two hands when handling weighted toys to avoid seam stress.
  • Weighted toys are for calming and supervised play only.
  • We recommend hand-washing weighted animals.

Where do plush toys fit into the NDIS?

Bocchetta Plush Toys are typically covered under the Core Supports category:

“A support that enables a participant to complete activities of daily living and work towards their goals.”

They are classed as low-risk, low-cost Assistive Technology (AT) or Consumables under:

  • 0103 – Assistive Products for Personal Care and Safety
    (Code #03-040000919-0103-1-1)
  • 0112 – Assistive Equipment for Recreation
